Folarin Falana, aka Falz, a musician and attorney, has claimed that people who support prejudice and tribalism during election season are deserving of the criticism they receive online.
Falz, son of human rights activist and lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), revealed this as a guest of ‘Breakfast Central’, where he talked on ‘The future of Nigeria politics and young involvement’.
The activist expressed disgust and insisted that everyone has the right to pick who they wish to support when speaking to persons who had been harassed for expressing their preferences for candidates for public posts.
“I find it amusing but also not amusing because I understand the viewpoints of others. The individuals that encouraged the racism and tribalism we discussed before are completely deserving of the treatment they are experiencing, in my opinion. The act of adding gasoline is so terrible.
“I’ve seen celebrities who I believed to have some common sense, and I’ve seen them brazenly fostering tribalism and bigotry in such a pointless way. Such people, in my opinion, deserved the bullying.
“But, for the other visitors who have just arrived, I would like to recommend this candidate. Of course, everyone should be completely free from any attacks, as we all know. I should be allowed to state that this candidate is my top choice, and I stand by that.
“But, we are aware of the challenges we face as a nation and are aware of the individuals who have maintained us in this position. So, when such folks come with their full chests and proclaim, ‘this is who I support’, I see why others attack them.
“But it’s not acceptable. Nobody should be victimized because of their candidate preference, but those individuals should also give it some thought. Have a look at how it has been moving around thus far. They can sense it too.
