The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said on Friday, that its Lagos Zonal Command has taken over the investigation into actress and cosmetologist Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin for alleged violation of the new naira notes policy.
According to the anti-corruption agency, items recovered from Omoseyin at the time of her arrest included a Range Rover and iPhone mobile devices.
Following an intelligence report, Omoseyin, 31, was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Fraud Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on February 1, 2023, along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
She was suspected of tampering with the newly designed naira notes, which is a violation of Section 21 (5) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
Her arrest came after a video of her spraying and stepping on redesigned naira notes at a party went viral.
She was also seen flaunting wads of the new naira notes in the viral video.
According to a statement by the EFCC’s Head, Media & Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, “The suspect was subsequently handed over to the EFCC on Thursday, February 2, 2023, for further investigations.”
Uwujaren said she would be charged to court “once investigations have been concluded.”
