Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson, has been hugely criticised for endorsing the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for a second term tenure under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
The mother of four took to her Instagram to declare her intention to vote for Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the gubernatorial election, which has been postponed to March 18th.
Johnson explained that she is willing to vote for the governor’s re-election because she believes that his administration’s accomplishments are noticeable and can be verified.
“This is why my choice is Governor Babajide Sanwoolu; his efforts have improved healthcare, women’s development, transportation, entrepreneurship, education, and infrastructure in Lagos State.
“Key points for me include the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, entrepreneurship support and his efforts in helping women who are victims of domestic violence by supporting their businesses.
“His results can be seen and measured. Yes, there is still a lot of work left to do, I believe in my heart that he can and will do as he says.”
However, her post didn’t go down well with some people who criticised her for endorsing Sanwo-Olu even though she remained non-partisan during the presidential election.
Many took to the comment section of her post to call her out, saying that she didn’t endorse any presidential candidate because of her husband’s election. They stated that her choice would have affected her husband’s victory at the polls.
She was also accused of doing the endorsement for the sake of her pocket. The actress was also labelled as one of the celebrities who does not care about their fans even though they are the people keeping them relevant.
