2023 election: Rivers voting would be by personalities not party lines

Picture depict voters at a polling unit

Elections in Rivers state in the past have been restricted to two major contenders, which have left the people with no choice to voting along party lines.

The scenario would be different in 2023 as the electorate would be splited in their choices due to the fact that no fewer than five political parties have credible candidates by standards to win at the polls.

The 2023 general election will be the first time that the governorship election in Rivers State will be keenly contested by candidates that were either political associates or rivals before the parties primaries.

With Candidates of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP, All Progressives Congresses APC, Social Democratic Party SDP, Labour Party LP, Accord Party AP, Young Peoples Party YPP,ADC amongst others now known, the electorate say the assignment of voting has been made a bit difficult because exercising their franchise will not be along party lines but by the credibility of the candidates.

They already have a line of thought of the kind of governor they would be rooting for when the time comes for then to vote for the candidate to pilot the affairs of the state in the next four years.

They say as days go by, the picture of what to expect come 2023 will become clearer as they urged the electorate to say no to vote buying and election manipulation.
