Buhari signs amended constitution allowing states generate, transmit electricity

The constitutional change allowing for the licensing, generating, transmitting, and distribution of electricity by states in the nation has been signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tolu Ogunlesi, the presidential spokesperson for media, announced this in a tweet on Friday.

He tweeted, “President #MBuhari has made 16 bills amending the Constitution into law. By virtue of this signing, financial independence for state legislatures and judicial systems has been guaranteed by the constitution, and railroads have been transferred from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list.

Another important development is that, thanks to the Presidential Assent, Nigerian States can now produce, transmit, and distribute power in national grid-served areas, was not permitted before modification. Through the Constitution, this reform is real and sincere.
