Fatal road accident claims five lives in Anambra

A tragic road accident on Friday at the Odumodu Junction in Nteje, along the Onitsha-Awka Expressway in Anambra, claimed the lives of five individuals.

The collision involved two vehicles, a Mitsubishi L300 commercial bus with registration number XE245AWK and a commercial Daf/Leyland truck bearing registration number T-19094LA acordong to a source.

The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. and was attributed to the container of the truck falling onto the commercial bus while the driver was navigating a deteriorated portion of the road.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicles were en route to different destinations, with one headed to Awka and the other to Onitsha.

Among the approximately 10 people involved, five female adults lost their lives, while two male adults and two female adults sustained injuries, and one male adult emerged unharmed the source.

The injured victims were promptly taken to Divine Care Hospital, Umunya, for medical care, and the deceased were transferred to Chira Hospital for confirmation by medical professionals before being moved to the New Jerusalem Mortuary in Nteje.

Authorities are currently working to clear the accident scene, and the Sector Commander of Anambra, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, extended his condolences to the families of the deceased.

And wished the injured victims a speedy recovery. He emphasized the importance of cautious driving and vigilance on the road to ensure the safety of all motorists.
