Adekola Adeshina, 48, of Abuja has been detained by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for having intercourse with Faith Solomon, a 10-year-old girl.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, the suspect admitted to carrying out the act on many occasions when being questioned by the police.
The FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the event in a statement acquired by our correspondent on Sunday. She said the police took action after receiving a complaint from the victim’s mother, Rose Solomon.
According to SP Adeh, “Operations of The FCT Police Command assigned to the Apo Divisional Police Headquarters, received a complaint from one Mrs Rose Solomon living close to Prince and Princess Estate, at approximately 10:15 am on March 22, 2023.
“Mrs. Solomon stated that she suspected her neighbor, Adekola Adeshina, a male who is 48 years old, of having intercourse with her daughter Faith Solomon, who is 10 years old.
“Shortly after being apprehended and questioned, the suspect willingly elected in a written statement to have committed the heinous deed multiple times.”
SP Adeh added that the suspect, who was still in police custody, will be charged with a crime after the investigation was complete while the 10-year-old, Faith Solomon, was receiving medical attention.
She also mentioned that Dr Sadiq Abubakar, the FCT Command’s Commissioner of Police, has urged parents and guardians to pay closer attention to changes in their children’s social behavior and make sure that precautions are taken to protect them from sexual assault.
