Navy shut down two illegal refining sites in Degema Rivers State

The flag officer commanding, the eastern naval command, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dewu, says there was a need for community participation in winning the war against the illegal refining of crude oil.

Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dewu said this during an on the spot assessment of the destruction of illegal refining sites at Degema local government area of Rivers State, South South Nigeria.

Apart from the heavy impacts on the nation’s economy, environmental degradation, loss of aquatic lives and health hazards are some of the challenges associated with crude oil theft in Nigeria’s Niger Delta Region.

To tackle the menace that has depleted the environment of the region, the Nigerian Navy had come up with a series of operations.

The flag officer commanding the eastern naval command, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dewu while on the spot assessment of operations in dakatar- da- barawo area, appealed for community involvement in the ongoing war against crude oil theft.

Rear Admiral Dewu also said, despite the challenges being faced during the deactivation of the illegal refining sites, the Nigerian Navy was acquiring the requisite equipment to win the war.

The commander, the Nigerian Navy ship, NNS PATHFINDER, Commodore Sulieman Ibrahim, assured that the Navy remained resolute in the fight against economic saboteurs.

Two massive illegal refining sites were deactivated at ke community and Cowathrone Channel in Degema local government area of Rivers State.
