With less than Three days left for the conduct of the Governorship and State Assembly election slated for Saturday 18th March, Nasarawa has come under political fuss, which has left supporters of some political parties confused.
The confusion first started with some statements credited to certain highly profiled individuals in the state who settled for the election going on the religious and ethnic majority, although this has been tackled by the state Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, warning the citizens of the state from fanning the embers of war using religion and ethnicity in political activities to desist from furthering with their course.
Another round of confusion which is based on politicking was the fake and authentic stepping down of some gubernatorial candidates for the major contenders of the position in the state.
On a recent account of withdrawal from the race are the governorship candidate of the Labour Party and that of the Zenith Labour Party Engineer Joseph Ewuga and Alhaji Umaru Doma, respectively. Also falsely dragged into the list of those that had stepped down for the APC and PDP candidates, was Alhaji Abdullahi Yakubu Maidoya the gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party
Npress report that while the withdrawal from the governorship contest of Joseph Ewuga of the Labour Party for David Ombugadu the PDP candidate and that of Umaru Doma of ZLP for EEngineerAbdullahi Sule the incumbent governor and APC candidate was genuine claims arising from Alhaji Yakubu Maidoya of NNPP of having step down for Engineer Abdullahi Sule has been vehemently refuted.
Apart from the NNPP gubernatorial candidate’s stained disclamation of stepping down for APC candidate and the ruling governor of Nasarawa state, a faction of the NNPP, especially from the western zone of the state alignment with the governor’s re-election ambition. Similarly, Joseph Ewuga’s withdrawal from the race to support David Ombugadu has also generated a division amongst the Labour Party supporters who are now scheming to work for Engineer Abdullahi Sule.
But Maidoya at a press conference at the NUJ House along Makurdi road Lafia made his position known in clear terms. He drew the attention of his supporters and the electorates in the state stating that he has not withdrawn from the race and he is not considering teaming up with any candidate for the sSaturday18th Governorship election.
And reacting to a letter that trended in the social media space, the NNPP gubernatorial candidate again stated that “It has come to the knowledge of the New Nigeria People’s Party Nasarawa and Maidoya Gubernatorial Campaign Council of a letter purportedly written and signed by Alh. Abdullahi Maidoya Yakubu the governorship Candidate of NNPP that he withdrew from the Governorship race, which is scheduled to hold on 18th Mech, 2023.
“That he (Maidoya) alien himself with Engr. A. A. Sule the APC Governorship Candidate. This is a blatant lie from the pit of hell, nothing as such is written from Alh. Abdullahi Maidoya Yakubu.
“The letter of Withdrawal circulating in the social media and other media outfits is a letter written by APC and circulated by the enemies of our people and the State, having seen their defeat in the upcoming election for the reasons of their inability to improve the people of Nasarawa and they are now too desperate to return to power.
“Alh. Abdullahi Maidoya Yakubu has become APC’s major obstacle because he is the candidate to beat, who has the grassroots support and endorsement by several groups within the State because of his humility, humbleness, empathy, compassion, and workable blueprint that are people-centered.
“Therefore, NNPP Nasarawa and Maidoya Gubernatorial Campaign Council are calling all her members, supporters, and well-meaning people of Nasarawa State to disregard the said letter in circulation, as is fake, not true, and a forged document, written and circulated by desperate APC politicians who have been given a mandate for 4 years without improving the people, talkless of providing infrastructures in the State.
“Categorically, Without doubt, Maidoya is still in the race and is our next Governor insha-Allah” The statement reads.
