The Ogun Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commandant David Ojelabi, has reassured citizens of adequate security and protection during the forthcoming gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections.
Ojelabi who gave the reassurance on Monday, in an interview with newsmen after a strategic meeting with the command’s formations held at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta promised total neutrality and professionalism in the course of their duties.
The strategic management meeting which congregated all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers from the State Command’s 71 formations in the State spelt out all modes of operations and rules of engagement in executing the elections alongside other sister services in the State.
According to the State Commandant, “We are poised to ensure a safe protection for voters and the protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure in the State before, during and after the elections”, he submitted.
“The people rely so much on our capabilities, and we shouldn’t let them down by any means. The expectations from us all is to man our jurisdictions and give all our best to make this election a free, fair and credible one”, he added.
Ojelabi however warned corps members that security agencies are undoubtedly non-partisan and apolitical in the electioneering process hence no one should go against the rules of the game.
Meanwhile, the Area Commanders and Divisional Officers promised to play by the rules having also sworn to an oath of neutrality to be non-partisan, fair and to equally make adequate security provisions towards a smooth and credible elections on Saturday.
