Olufunmilayo Ogunsanya, a prominent Twitter doctor based in the United Kingdom, has been cleared of rape allegations by the UK’s Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.
The allegations were made by his former girlfriend, Dr. Bolanle Aseyan, but an investigation conducted by the UK Police found the claims to be unsubstantiated.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who represents Olufunmilayo in Nigeria, shared the judgment from the courtroom on Twitter.
Stating that all the allegations against Olufunmilayo had not been proven and that his fitness to practice had not been impaired.
Effiong also mentioned that Bolanle Aseyan is currently facing civil and criminal lawsuits in Nigeria for her actions.
In October 2020, Bolanle, who is based in the UK, accused Olufunmilayo via Twitter of sexually abusing her.
She claimed to have evidence of the alleged misconduct and criticized Olufunmilayo for presenting a different persona online.
Olufunmilayo denied the allegations, leading to the involvement of the UK Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.
After a three-year trial, Olufunmilayo has now been exonerated, marking a victory for him and victims of false accusations of sexual misconduct.
The case highlights the importance of a thorough investigation and the need to distinguish between credible allegations and baseless claims.
