Burkina Faso has advanced to the African Cup of Nations U17 semifinals, where they will play Morocco. The Junior Stallions have also earned a spot in the Peru 2023 FIFA World Cup.
A double from Aboubacar Camara helped Burkina Faso defeat Nigeria 2-1 in their AFCON U17 match today in Algeria. As a result, the Burkinabés won this West African derby at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers. They are the ones who began each period of the game with the lead.
Just before halftime, Aboubacar Camara scored the game’s first goal. In the 57th minute of the second half, he once more made the break from the penalty spot.
Abubakar Idriss Abdullahi cut the Nigerians’ lead in half ten minutes later. A run against Nigeria’s futile equalizer followed, earning Burkina Faso a spot in the U17 AFCON semifinals in Algeria.
In the tournament semifinals versus Senegal, they will engage in another West African derby. The game is on Sunday, May 14.
