Enrique Cerezo, president of Atletico Madrid, claims that Joao Felix is not wanted to stay at the team for the upcoming season by new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The 23-year-old player, who had recently extended his contract with Atletico Madrid through 2027, joined Chelsea in January on a six-month loan.
Felix made an impression during his time at Stamford Bridge, scoring four Premier League goals in 16 games. However, Cerezo announced that Felix would not be staying at Chelsea.
The fact is that I can’t tell you the strategy with Joao, Cerezo said to reporters on Tuesday when asked about the player’s future.
The new manager doesn’t depend on him at Chelsea, according to the news we learned yesterday. There are currently no plans for Joao, who plays for Atletico.
The Portugal international earlier made it known that his future was contingent on the club making the Champions League the following season, but Chelsea finished in 12th place and missed out on playing in Europe.
Pochettino, who on Monday agreed to a two-year contract with the club, will be charged with putting Chelsea back into Europe.
